Computational generation of multiphase asphalt nanostructures using random fields

This study presents a novel methodology to generate computational replicates of nanostructures multiphase materials, such as asphalt binders, by integrating image analysis techniques with stochastic random field (RF) modeling. Image are used identify and segment nanostructure images obtained atomic force microscopy, while RF is model the spatial distribution their material properties. The results this process showing probable arrangements properties that replicate experimentally images. computationally generated then inputs in finite element evaluate effect heterogeneity on mechanical response. efficacy developed approach demonstrated through simulations binders’ nanostructures, which reveal insights regarding nanoscale behavior FE provided link between binders variations application expands body knowledge beyond deterministic toward probabilistic uncertainty quantification considers heterogeneous, structures.
